In Oregon’s Western Cascades, Pilot Rock rises above the Rogue and Shasta Valleys. The area’s original inhabitants, the Takelma (“those along the river”), called it Tan-ts'at-seniphtha, or Stone Standing Up. Arrows represent salmon swimming into nets, and baskets overflowing with acorns and camas which allowed the Takelma to live harmoniously along the Rogue River
